Getsemani’s Street Art

8 Feb

Cartagena was the first city in South America to free the slaves after the war of independence in 1818. Many of those slaves who who had been forced from Africa to Colombia settled in the part of Cartagena called Getsemani. Getsemani became its own island outside the defensive walls surrounding this colonial city. Today, Getsemani’s street murals celebrate the embedded history and daily life of this vibrant neighborhood.
