This year we are headed to Costa Blanca on the Mediterranean coast of Spain for two months. People often ask us how we choose the next destination. In 2025 we wanted a European sojourn. And Alicante, Spain is one of the warmest, sunniest, driest small cities in all of Europe, especially in the winter.
Alicante sits between Malaga to the south on Costa del Sol, and Barcelona to the north on Costa Brava. You can even take a ferry directly from Alicante across the Mediterranean Sea to Algiers and the coast of Africa. Travelers have moved through the region surrounding Alicante for thousands of years, from the hunter-gatherers to the Greeks and Romans. But in the last decades it has been a favorite beach resort for people farther north in Europe, especially damp Britain. In summer Alicante teams with tourists but is slower-paced and quieter in the off-season, our favorite time to travel.
We are looking forward to mild afternoons with walks along the Explanada de Espana (the tiled boardwalk in the photo above) between the beach and Old Town. We’re glad you will be walking along with us again this trip.
Let’s go, my friends.
Dear Miss Jill, This is very exciting news. I will try to relearn how to get on the blog to make a comment. Meanwhile, know that I will eagerly follow along and look forward to your reports and Dana’s pictures. When do you leave?? Love you, Dede

Dede, I am so glad to see your comment.Wordpress is calling it a “permalink.” Who knows what the heck that is but I will try to find out. We are going February 3 to April 3. Getting more excited as departure approaches.
Yay! It worked. I can see your Comment. So glad to have this working so everyone can see your Comments as we travel.
great news. I think I enjoy your holidays more than I do my own!
Happy New Year Paul! So great to have you in on this trip with us again.
Sounds perfect.
Happy New Year David! So happy you will be with us in Alicante.
Happy 1st day of the new year. What joy and anticipation fills me as I await to join you on your adventures. So happy to hear that you’re getting away again and to such an interesting place. That tiled path alone is quite an invitation, although the optical illusion of waves might cause my walking to be a bit unsteady, like trying to navigate on a sea-tossed boat!
Happy New Year Susan! We will be leaving beginning of February and returning beginning of April. Temps are mid to low 60s in Alicante during the day so it will be great fun to walk.
Sounds like an awesome town! Yay so exciting. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Jeannette! Welcome back.
Marveloso! I don’t think it’s necessarily a great way to start the new year—-but what the hell, I confess: I have Alicante envy. Enjoy! And thanks for sharing.
HAPPY 2025🎉
