In contrast to Greek and Roman Ruins, we have seen some eye-popping contemporary sights in Sicily. There are furniture design stores everywhere. If the display windows are to be believed, everyone lives in a present day Felini movie.
We have also observed some commercial design that belies narrow streets and homemade pasta. There is a traveling orange juice stand that we have seen at several venues. Local feast days are a biggee. The orange opens to a preparation area and counter with similiar design and hues. The orange juice is freshly squeezed, some from the local specialty blood oranges.
We spyed this plastic palm at a home landscaping store. They also sold pots that mimicked the reconstructed Roman pots we saw at the Museum of Archaeology. These along with a drive-in MacDonald’s are a sobering reminder that even Sicily suffers from international exposure to plastic and Big Macs.
