This is the second post in our random photo collections series. We have seen birds everywhere in our trips around Adelaide; black swans, parrots, lorikeets, hawks, pelicans, cockatoos, fairy penguins, emu, ducks and their ducklings and many more birds we could not identify. Here they are in all their feathered wonder. Enjoy.

Jill: Pay no mind to my stepdad Neil; he can be silly at times…..well, nearly all the time. Having just returned from New Zealand, I was surprised to see a few birds that you also photographed in Australia. Aside from seeing the frequent black swans and gray ducks, you may be intriqued by the Tui (mimicking birds) and the Eastern Rosella (quite flashy).
Hi Renee, Welcome to our blog. Where were you in New Zealand? We are arriving in Christchurch, staying on the Banks Peninsula for Christmas then taking the train and Picton Ferry from Christchurch to Auckland. Should be a wonderful ride. Beautiful pictures! I am surprised at how tropical the flowers and birds are.
We are too. One of the things we have learned from this trip is that Mediterranean climate covers a wide spectrum of flora and fauna. I was always amazed that banana trees grew in Santa Barbara. And South Africa had is own Floral Region of the world, the tiniest one of six. Australia’s isolation has led to some really interesting adaptations. A platypus and an echidna are pretty hard to beat.
those birds are fabulous! so colorful. I guess the parrots are escaped birds? We are going to the Bosque for Xmas and will think of all the incredible birds all over the world!
Unbelievably, I think the parrots here are native. Have a great time at the Bosque and Merry Christmas to you both.
Them birds be not too random……..I recognize a pair of copatickles, the black swan is called a Bad Omen in the States………. the one that needs a haircut bad has me stopped………and I was just imaging an Ozian parrot speaking “Aye, maite, Polly wantsa biscuit!”
