We’re back on the road, headed to Cartagena, Colombia in January for a two month stay.
Cartagena is a different choice for us. It is tropical. And it is on the Carribean Sea, a part of the world we have not visited. We are looking forward to hot! hot! hot!, sun, ocean, architecture, history and a entirely new culture with great Columbian cuisine and endless coffee beans.
Our apartment is in an old hotel on Plaza de Bolivar, a small square filled with trees and central to Ciudad Amarallada, the walled “Old Town” of Cartagena. Cartagena’s history is filled with pirates and greedy Englishmen fighting against the domination of Spain in their quest for the gold of the new world.
We may not be up late enough to dance the salsa in the lively clubs of the Getsemani neighborhood. But we will be walking the narrow streets daily as we discover the city the Spanish called Cartagena de Indias.
It is great to be traveling again and to have you with us on this trip.
You picked the two best months to be out of Santa Fe! Live is a bit unfair. You go dance which we shovel snow. Actually, we need the snow (moisture), so maybe not so bad an exchange after all. Venezuela is about to start a war, so watch out for your flanks. Terry
Hi Terry, Good to have you with us. We will not miss the shoveling. Though, increasingly, we just wait for it to melt.
It is amazing what humidity does to a New Mexico complexion. Smoothes out all of the wrinkles. The Venezuelan border is where the most danger lies. Guerillas and the drug trade. But Cartagena is the “safest” city in Colombia. We are getting used to walking the crowded streets. People start dancing here at 11 PM, sometimes go to 5 AM. We’re looking for a mid-morning Salsa Club.
That is great news to wake up to on an unseasonal rainy Adelaide morning. Jill and Dana are travelling again, the world has regained some order.
Hi Paul, So good to hear from you. It has been snowing here so we will be delighted to head to the tropics. Every morning my phone awaits with selected photos from the past. We see Adelaide and are reminded of our wonderful visit. Jill & Dana
Great to hear you’ll be on the road again Jill and Dan!! Still lively memories of your stay in Valparaiso, buen viaje y hasta siempre!
