Right across the road from our house is the Silvermine River. The river forms a beautiful and nature filled wetland that we walk through as often as we can.
The Wetland is home to the endangered Leopard Toad as well as many varieties of birds and pond life.
Every day when we walk we see something different. On Monday we were lucky enough to see a baby otter, a really rare siting. Unfortunately he moved so fast we couldn’t take his picture.
The river comes from the mountains behind us and slows as it reaches the ocean forming the wetland.
The water is tea colored tinted by the tannins found in the plants.
As the river hits the sand beach its color makes a beautiful contrast to the sand creating a large pool as it enters the ocean.
One of the things we love is that the wetland is dog friendly. We miss our dog Trolley and these dogs give us a chance to pet them while we think of him having a great time at home.
It seems like South Africa is a nature wonderland! And that you guys are enjoying it more than Sicily?
The land is very very beautiful. The uniqueness and variety of the animals and birds is amazing. Even with this, I like Sicily better. I love the people and the pace of life. And I just feel comfortable in the culture.
