We have met some wonderful people in Valparaiso. Valparaiso Experience, the group of buildings where we live, is a little community on the hill, Cerro Bellavista. Bart and David, two men who know how to have a good time in Chile or any other country, brainstormed a party for the group on a boat in the bay.
David, our kind host, is a sailor but was willing to try a motor driven boat so we could all see Valparaiso from the water and be safe. (Remember the post, “Precarious Cargo?”)
Preparations started days before as people gathered and prepared to schlep all of the food and good Chilean wine on board. Lisa prepared and organized the food and drink and created a buffet and bar in the galley. Bart oversaw logistics and Ricky barbecued great Chilean sausage, chicken and beef.
There was a mix of Chileans and Americans with ages ranging from 26 to 84.
Ricky made Pisco Sours, Chile’s national drink. (Casey is drinking one here.) They are like a whiskey sour but sweeter (Chileans like sweet.) and made with Pisco, a white brandy made with muscat grapes. Chileans think their Pisco is the best. Peruvians think their Pisco is the best. It is a competition between the two countries. And Pisco Sours are strong!
We traveled the length of the port seeing a lounging seal colony along the way.
We made a big loop then motored back into the sunset.
The streets, buildings and homes lit up as the light faded and we saw another side of this extraordinary city.
What a great event it was, thnaks to David and everyone on board! Great post and impressive photos, would love to publish a link to this post from our new website when it is online – still hope – believe – trust – feel it will be this week…
Keep enjoying Valparaíso dear amigos!
Bart
Hi Bart, We only wish we had gotten a photo of you taking photos to post on the page. Thank you again for the celebration. It was great fun!
WOW, Jill! What fun. My only complaint about this is no photo of you or Dana!!
I miss you and want to see your beautiful faces. Love, Dede
I know there are never any pictures of Dana because he is always taking the photos and there are too many pictures of me! What a great group of people. How lucky we are to have found them here.
Is this the most fun you’ve had on your fabulous adventure yet?
We had a wonderful time. It was so much fun to see this mix of people and share the experience with them. Valparaiso is really special.
