We hear bells. We hear bells chiming on mostly the half-hour and the quarter-hour. Often they call people to Mass at the basilica or one of the myriad churches in Guanajuato. I can tell I am on time walking to school as the basilica bell rings just as I pass every day.
The bell towers on most of the churches and cathedrals are ornate, remnants of Spain’s rule in the New World. The architectural styles and building colors combine in an elegant tapestry threaded through the small city.
The sonorous bells offer a daily background to a way of life that is much slower than we have in the states…much slower and much softer.
Sure would be nice to hear them. Is there a way you could record them?
Hi Ursula, It is so good to have you back. We could try to record some bell sounds. At our house they are in the distance but we will try closer to the bell towers. If it works, I will post a sound file.
Such a beautiful photo..Dana’s??
And walking past as the bell chimes…now that is an app for all times.

Yes. All of the photos are Dana’s. He has a wonderful eye. My cell phone ring tone is “temple bells,” very soothing.
